After a tough loss to open the region slate, the Stratford Knights have won two in a row. Stratford returned to Ray Stackley Field Friday night against the visiting Berkeley Stags in the Friday Night Rivals game of the week. The Knights and Stags would battle to a scoreless first quarter. In the second quarter Stratford got on the board as time expired for halftime. Tyler Stament would kick a 43 yard field goal into the wind to put the Knights up 3-0.
Berkeley would come out of the half a drive down the field to take a 7-3 lead. An interception would give Berkeley momentum, but the Knights defense came up with a hold. Stratford would then drive down the field with Jachin Davis connecting with Elijah Riley, giving the Knights a 10-7 lead. Stratford would then record a safety to make the score 12-3. With a little over a minute left in the third quarter and Stratford at the Berkeley 6 yard line, Davis connected with Jacob Deacon to put the Knights up 18-3. Davis hit Warrick Yoder on the two point play.
The Knights would slam the door on the next Berkeley possession when Amir McKnight picked off a Berkeley pass and raced it back for a Knight score and a 26-7 lead after the extra point was no good. Senior Markell Holman would cap the scoring for Stratford with a 62 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He would also convert the two point try.
Stratford returns to action next Friday night at crosstown rival Goose Creek. The Knights and Gators will square off in a game that will serve as the region championship. Should Goose Creek win, the Gators would lock up the #1 seed from Region 6. A Stratford victory would create a potential three way tie, should Cane Bay defeat Berkeley, which would then bring tiebreakers into effect.
